Our Background

How We Got Started

Ok guys and gals here’s a lil back story on how PoorBoy Kennel’s name came about. So growing up and being raised into hounds all my life and my Papa and Dad has beagles. So naturally me being raised into hunting it got in my blood. When I first was able to finally buy my first actual beagle one that I could call my own I was 14. Now back at that age I didn’t care what he done or ran and I definitely didn’t even know anything about registered stock. Being a teenager I was happy to just have a dog that would be mine and he could do what he wanted his name was Shiloh.(reason being he was a lil shy at first) he was a one heck of a Beagle would run anything. Now that being said that’s where my passion started. Now fast forward a few years I’m 16 years old got a truck of my own and dogbox and I’m able to work and earn money and start make my very first pack of rabbit beagles. Me and my Dad load up and head down to the Grand American (if your not sure what it is look it up it’s every houndsmen dream) to go and just look around. Well we get down there and there’s a n older gentleman sitting beside the fence near the gate. Of course wouldn’t you know if he has some beagles. Now me being 16 and having to work and pay for my own insurance and phone bill I didn’t have much money. But the older gentleman that was from Missouri I believe he could see my passion I had for beagles. He had two older more season females there that were sisters and i started asking him some questions about them and I looked in my wallet before I asked him the price of them. I said sir how much are the two sisters he said I tell you what if you will promise me to look after them and take good care of them how does $25 per dog sound I said sir you got a deal. So from that day on is where it all began in Rabbit hunting although my Papa and Dad rabbit hunted as well. Well I hunted those dogs for probably 2-3 years I’d say and added one or two more along the way and had a ball doing it. The Beagle fever had set in for good. Well fast forward again to when I was 20. I had just gotten married to my beautiful amazing wife Autri Kay Parrish. Now at the time I didn’t have any beagles but wasn’t long after that I started looking me some. Well of course as most newlyweds neither of us had much money but I had the know how on how to make it and how to budget it. So i started from nothing and started buying used dog pens and patching small holes on them. I than started looking for some Beagles now at this age I knew a lil about registered but not much only thing I knew was they were out of my price range. So I bought a few grade dogs here and there and got me a nice pack to going. That first season I killed a nice mess of rabbits. Well it want long after that I slowly started selling the grade beagles(beagles without papers as Us Beaglers call them) and started saving my money up to buy my first registered Beagle. Finally I have enough money and my very first beagle that was AKC Registered came from a man in grantham by the name Duke Young. His name is Rusty me and Rusty have been through a lot together and I think a lot of the old man he’s about as true of a rabbit beagle as you can ask for. Now old Rusty is getting a lil age on him but he will never go anywhere he will forever have a home with me. He may not be a Field Champion but he was my very first AKC registered Beagle. He means a lot to me more than anything in this world. Moral to my story is I’ve always stayed true to my roots. I’ve never tried to live above my means and always try to help out people when I can. God has been a big part in seeing me through a lot of things and to write all of this and not mention God would be a shame on my part because he has truly Blessed me to have what i have today. Guys and Gals I’m sorry for the long post but I just figured I’d give a lil back history on where my Kennel name come from and kinda sort how I got started into it. Thanks for reading and as always God Bless and Jesus Love’s You!
